I don't know about you, but I am forever looking for family friendly–but still fun–activities to do with my kiddos. They're getting to that age; the age where some things just aren't fun or cool anymore, but they're not quite at the age when the 'cool' or 'fun' things are appropriate (or fun for Mom, too). I think that I've found our perfect solution for December.

Of course I've known about The Salvation Army for years, and I've plunked coins in countless red kettles over the years. I also was lucky enough to write about an amazingly wonderful donation to a Kansas City red kettle for Northland Lifestyle Magazine last year. As an aside, I love writing articles like that one; interesting story, kind and genuine people and goodness that makes my soul warm and fuzzy!

Rock the Red Kettle is a free concert on December 7, 2012, at the Midland Theater, featuring Andy Grammer. For those of you who don't think you know Andy Grammer, I'll bet you'd change your tune once your realized he's the guy who sings the catchy song "Keep Your Head Up." He's the first male pop star since 2003 to reach the Top 10 at Adult Pop Radio, and the single is now certified Gold and rapidly approaching Platinum.

Grammer began as a street performer in Santa Monica, California, and radio has enthusiastically embraced his vibrant style and catchy lyrics. Most of his debut headlining tour, which started in January, has sold out.

The Salvation Army's goal for Rock the Red Kettle is to engage young people in volunteer opportunities. Guests will learn about what The Salvation Army does worldwide, and displays that encourage youth to  help will be present. Particular focus will be placed on information about human trafficking
