Reverb 13: Days 15 & 16 from Project Reverb:
Day 15: Anchor: What kept you tethered to 2013?
Day 16: 1000 Words: There’s the old saying that a photo is worth 1,000 words. Give us a photo with that impact that sums up some significant event of your 2013, or give us 1,000 words about a pivotal moment in 2013.
I can’t pretend that I don’t see the word in a negative way. Maybe it’s my wanna-be-wanderlust or my fierce need to never let anyone in, but the thought of being inextricably tied to someone—tethered—terrifies me.
Except with them.
These three, who are of me and from me and like me and so not me. These three, who are my reason for getting up, my reason for keeping on and my reason for starting over again when I feel I can’t. These three, who exasperate, enchant, overwhelm and awe me; sometimes all of those, even, within the span of an hour. These three, who make me laugh, cry, scream, shake my head and constantly count my blessings. These three, who made me more than I ever could be.
Right now, I am very gladly tethered to each of them as unique young people and to us together as a family. Right now, I can’t imagine another reality than one bound to them as their nurturer, protector, advocate, cheerleader, cook, chauffeur….mother.
Right now, these chains are where I find comfort and this purpose is what I call home.
Right now, this is enough.
I’m thankful to Kat McNally and the Project Reverb team for providing prompts for #reverb13. If you’re unfamiliar with the phenomenon that is #reverb13, you can read about it at Kat’s place. I plan to participate as much as possible this year, and I’m excited to see Kat’s prompts pop up in my inbox each day. It’s never too late to join, if you’re so inclined.
